Madison County Archives

The Archives started about 1999 and was located in several buildings in downtown Jackson including on the third floor of Juvenile Services Building on the Old Union University campus. At the present location, it houses some of the oldest Madison County records and assists citizens and researchers in their use.

Our largest holdings consists of Circuit Court records and we have many documents from various county departments (see Holdings). We work closely with the Tennessee State Library and Archives and County Technical Assistance Service (CTAS).

This department develops and manages the county archives program. They also advise the County Mayor and Public Records Commission on the performance of the archives program.

County Archives Standards

County archives standards are outlined by rules set forth by the Tennessee State Library and Archives (TSLA). Archives must be kept current and accessible for the public's use.
