Jackson’s Amphitheater at the Market (referred to as the AMP) is a collaborative project between the City of Jackson, West Tennessee Farmers Market, Jackson Downtown Development Corporation, Jackson Arts Council, Visit Jackson Tennessee, and numerous community volunteers.
The AMP began hosting free concerts during the summer of 2014. These events encourage guests to bring picnic baskets or patronize one of the food concessions. Music begins on the main stage at 7:30. Blankets and lawn chairs are welcomed and encouraged as guests enjoy live music in the open air.
As its popularity rose, the AMP added a deck area for sponsors to enjoy the event. Since the summer season of music is completely free to attend, sponsorship is key. Jimmy Exum, community volunteer, says, “It has been a wonderful way to get people downtown again and the quality of life experience has been enhanced with the free music concerts.”
During their inaugural season, the AMP received the Tennessee Statewide Four Star Award for Excellence in new facility design by the Tennessee Recreation & Parks Association. Its selection was based on its design, land usage, positive impact on the community, and community partnerships involved.
Its success was also recognized in 2016 as a Top 20 Venue by THE MORTIMER & MIMI LEVITT FOUNDATION dedicated to reinvigorating America’s public spaces through creative placemaking and creating opportunities for everyone to experience the performing arts. The AMP publizes their event on their Facebook page. Connect with them at https://www.facebook.com/JacksonAMPattheMarket/ to keep current with the schedule.
