My taxes were paid at Closing, but I just found out I owe back property taxes on the house I bought last year, WHY?

While taxes are not paid in this office, we receive calls about this almost everyday. ANSWER: Taxes cannot be paid early. Tax Notices regarding your property should be received the by the first week of October each year. Any paperwork regarding the payment of taxes due at closing is typically an estimation especially if the closing is prior to October 1st of that tax year. We encourage you to contact your closing attorney regarding tax payment responsibilities. Please contact the Madison County Trustees office at (731)-423-6027 and/or the City of Jackson Revenue Office at (731)-425-8210 for information regarding property taxes. PLEASE CONTACT OUR OFFICE IF YOU MOVE OR CHANGE YOUR MAILING ADDRESS
