1. Can I build a shop style home or a tiny home in Madison County?

Yes. All residential homes (dwellings) erected inside of the boundaries of Madison County must be constructed in accordance with the latest current adopted building codes. Please contact us if you are considering this type of construction for specific requirements.

2. When should a Permit be purchased?

Any owner or authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system, the installation of which is regulated by the 2012 IBC and IRC, or to cause any such work to be done, shall first make application to the Madison County Building Commissioner and obtain a required permit.

3. What information will I need when applying for a permit?

Each permit requires different information including but not limited to: type, description of work, license, health department approval, cost, zoning, physical address number, owner, etc. Please contact our office (731) 423-6014 so that we can help be prepared for the permitting process.

4. How much notice should I provide when requesting an inspection?

Contact our office by no later than 3:30 the day before you need inspection.
